March Time

Samuel Amadon

I watch the news as it comes, a sentence
Getting its green letters and numbers in
Me. I’d rather be with my friends, driving,
We’re 17, holding our newports in
The wind. Everyone has a sweatshirt.
Everyone has a gray tee. At dawn,
Blue newspapers arrive on all the lawns.
Each like a width bending in my fingers.
What does this sentence say I ask myself
As I say it here, and feel like I’m in
A river, jeans in the water, hands in
My pockets, you think words’ll escape you,
And then you find they won’t release. I see
Whatever was is lost, but not from me.
