Headland Ambit

Nica Franklin

There is this ness ledges
repleted where
unhandled margins
create the tarry
no limicole landfalls
on. Nor shorebirds.

The coast again tends
in: bottomwater
to mid-sea rocks
returns so swiftly—
rock here cannot
always be land.
Even now what were

called the facts
inshore are. Gorsed
heath launders
once-wetland
marshgrasses as
if inaction, not water
fitted for use, offered
the chance to inhabit.

How then a landing can
be departed to: in
an incurve on
taller rock guano
only loiters in
water it greened.
