A Sea Conversation

Adam J. Maynard

We had a conversation by the sea
By the light of the paper moon
And the following day a walk
In the sun dappled woods

Yellow lichen on rocks, sea breeze
Sand, sea grass, tall oaks
Still forced to participate in the farce

Millions of leaves shivering in the sun
A strange consistency to the wind
The baroque priapism of the butterflies
Twisting in the dusty air

Leaves conspiring in grey headland light
Eating Rice Krispies with butterflies
In the tea scented rain

All green tones merging
Collecting the sky (its greasy turquoise hue)
A Dutch painting of cucumbers

The old delighted by the new

In the shining time of an endless day
