Poem for Revolution

Ashley M. Jones

for Malcolm, Martin, and all the rest

the boys and the girls are black.
the dolls and the trucks are black.

the momma and the daddy are black.
the road and the sky are black.

the Bibles and the bullets are black.
the Father and the Son are black.

the water and the fountain is black.
the fire and hoses are black.

the shoes are black. the mouths are black.
the singers and the songs, black.

the caskets and the weepers are black.

the chaff and the wheat are black.
the wind rolls, blackly, through the fields.
