The Dialectic of Down

Ana Božičević

To turn the frown upside down doesn’t make a smile. A frown is something that points down:
 ̑
and upside-down suggests that something that points up has been turned
down:
˘  à  ̑
Therefore, to ask a frown to turn upside down is
 ̑  =  ̑
to ask a frown to be a frown.

And that does not a smile make.
